Mammary Gland Involution
This project represents the development of the first-ever computational model of mammary gland involution—the complex tissue remodeling process that occurs after weaning. By combining multiple machine learning approaches on over 1,200 digital pathology whole slide images, we're creating a quantitative, data-driven framework to understand this critical biological process.
Mammary gland involution involves dramatic changes in tissue architecture: epithelial structures collapse, adipocytes expand, immune cells infiltrate, and the tissue returns to a pre-pregnancy state. These changes have been traditionally described qualitatively. Our work transforms this into a quantifiable, modelable system.
